I tend to host the most, hopefully, hostess with the mostess, during summer.
Sun, outdoor space, Sancerre and a spare room are the right ingredients for weekend entertaining. I enjoy the creative aspect of setting the table, creating a menu and adding some extra touches to the guest bedroom. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones. It seems that most people feel the way I do, as topic of conversations revolve around weekend visits to friends, BBQs and poolside cocktails. Which leads me to the next topic of conversation, and a challenging one – what is the perfect summer hostess gift.
I did a little research and based on my own experience, I’ve come up with some chic, useful and kitschy gifts.
Something that I’d never think of on my own, but came across while reading an article on summer hostess gifts, was instant cameras. I love the idea of taking spontaneous photos which can be printed immediately – think old school polaroids. A great idea would be to create a collage of your summer guests/entertaining or gifting your guests some photos as a memory of a fun time.

Two no brainer lit ideas are candles and coffee table books. My favorite brands of candles are Diptyque – specifically, Feu de Bois and Figuier. My favorite by Byredo is Cotton Poplin. If you really want to wow your hostess and perhaps snag an extra day, go big or go home with this oversized Diptyque candle. I have one myself and it makes a statement accessory.
Assouline is typically my go-to for coffee table books. For summer, I would choose outdoor related themes, think travel, landscapes, vacation homes…

Two favorite brands for tabletop gifts are Tina Frey and Aerin. I have a number of pieces that are easy to incorporate in any decor. They also hold up well and are a good backdrop for hors d’ouvres.
I literally use this trio bowl dish set every time I entertain as well as this ice bucket with a cool leather handle detail. I recently added this cake stand to my collection – pretty sweet if you ask me!

I always like to serve with coasters as they’re functional and decorative. These delicate linen coasters add a European touch.
I’m always a fan of anything rattan and these coasters are a great summer hostess gift for a tablescape. For a pop of color and some outdoor vibes, check these out by Mercedes Salazar.
I once received a cashmere throw as a hostess gift and I loved the idea and use it on cool summer nights and even indoors to cozy up on a rainy day.
