Oh Vacations…how I love thee!
Just returned from a long holiday weekend in St. Barths with the family (ok, 6 days but still…) and it was so special.
Though I first began visiting the island as a child, the beauty and charm continues to amaze me.
The views are 360 degrees of beautiful natural seascape, with waters that are 50 shades of turquoise. The perfect weather, chic town, beach front dining and French flair make this my favorite Caribbean destination.
This visit, we stayed at the newly opened Le Barthelemy Hotel & Spa. This modern beachfront hotel has a boutique like vibe with rooms that are spacious and chic. There is a holistic spa (La Mer products ladies) and a sizable fitness center by island standards.
Each morning, we began our day with exercise at the fitness center or by Columbier beach for a hike. This year, I discovered an extended trail which was more challenging and I absolutely loved it. I brought my 14 year old daughter with me who was a real champ and followed suit.
Our favorite part was jumping in the water afterwards with our clothes on!
For lunch, we dined at the hotel’s two excellent beachside restaurants and also enjoyed restaurant hopping on the island.
Each evening and after the beach, we drove into town. The shopping is always amazing. Many of the designer boutiques offer pieces exclusive to the island. The unique selection of beachwear is very exciting for a collector like me. Can’t miss a trip to La Creperie for ice cream, and crepes of course. Also, perfect for people watching and yacht sightings.
All our dinners had a casual elegance to them. Cocktails and mocktails ruled the table. The food was fresh and everyone was relaxed and satisfied. As a family we basically ate, lounged and then ate again. We kept active during the day with some paddle boarding, refreshing dips in the ocean and Jack had fun learning how to windsurf and “seabob.”
We relaxed, laughed cried, hugged and kissed. Nothing like quality time the family.
What else can I say? The French are tres chic and truly have that je ne said quoi!
For Lunch:
Eden Rock Sand Bar: This was my favorite lunch on the island with its extensive menu, friendly attentive service and a nice buzz.
Cheval Blanc La Case de L’Isle: Enjoyed beach dining with my feet in the sand. Rose all day -who could resist?
Le Barthelemy Aux Amis: A refreshing lunch with island inspired French cuisine in a casual chic setting.
Shellona Beach: As the name suggests, this new restaurant is situated on a shell covered beach serving authentic Mediterranean cuisine. This beach club had the most action, yet appropriate for children.
Le Toiny Beach Club: This newly opened spot boasts a dreamy setting. The tranquil setting is truly magnificent serving elegant Mediterranean cuisine.
Petite Colombe Bakery: Best Tarte Tropezienne and fresh croissants daily.
For Dinner:
L’Isola: Delicious authentic Italian cuisine in a warm atmosphere.
Bagatelle: Chic bistro serving Mediterranean cuisine – indoor and outdoor dining.
Le Barthelemy Aux Amis: Light fresh French inspired cuisine
La Guerite: We loved this Greek inspired cuisine set across from the harbour so much, we visited twice. The live DJ and attentive service make this a must.
