Although the weather this month continues to be absolutely dreamy, soon enough we will all be singing the lyrics to that classic song “Baby, it’s cold outside”. And…if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to have the perfect winter coat to keep you warm outside and weather the winter weather.
Luckily, there are many fashionably warm coats that happen to be trending this season, ie the shearling, the puffer, and the classic wool coat. For those who choose fashion over function, or live in a warmer climate, the moto jacket is very much in vogue. Lastly, no matter where in the world you may reside, the trench coat, though also trending this season, is always a classic wardrobe staple that is worth the investment.
Below are 5 major coat styles trending this winter and I’ve highlighted my favorites from each category.
The Shearling
Nili Lotan’s shearling coats are at the top of my list this season. I’m obsessed with this collared tailored style in particular with tonal leather trim detailing that elevates the overall look. Very 70’s in my opinion…
Mother Puffer
I love a mother puffer come the hardcore winter months, ie mid-December, January, and February. I’m a huge fan of this green reversible hooded down puffer by Marni. A classic and cool style indeed.
I also have my eye on this grey cashmere and wool down jacket by Moncler. I like the style of this jacket, and when left unzipped, it has more attitude. I’d have to try it on all zipped up as I am on the fence when it comes to a cinched waist. I decided to include this option in the round-up because it’s perfect in every other way. I am a fan of the luxe cashmere and wool blend, the chic light grey tone. Not to mention it’s Moncler, and as we all know, no one does toasty like Moncler.
In The Trenches
There is something so French about a trench. Definitely worth checking out this must-have khaki lightweight, oversized trench by Reformation that hits just below the knee. I am also swooning over Burberry’s iconic double-breasted rendition.
The Moto Jacket
Though not your typical leather moto jacket, Khaite makes a black cropped wool-blend moto-style jacket that is tres chic.
For a classic leather moto jacket style, no one does it better than Saint Laurent and…no one charges as much as Saint Laurent does. If you have the means to splurge, go for it! For a relatively more affordable option, Helmut Lang’s smooth leather biker jacket with zipped pockets is simply effortless.
The Classic Wool Coat
When it comes to the wool blend coat, I swoon for Chloe’s which comes in a navy double-breasted wool blend. This classic fit looks simply divine and is a solid wardrobe investment.
Nili Lotan’s brown oversized overcoat is super sophisticated and another fabulous option for the fall/winter season.
Though this dark blue printed coat does not fall into any particular category, it works perfectly for fall. ba&sh gifted this piece to me and I just so happen to love a kimono style. It is lightweight, versatile, and can be worn belted for a more defined waist. Best of all, they are offering 10% off at check out to all Fortune Inspired readers using the code FORTUNE.
Lastly… a bit of advice…If there is a coat you are considering, buy it and try it. Sizes are limited both online and in-store boutiques. If it doesn’t work you can simply return it. Most importantly, when you venture out for your pumpkin lattes and hot cocoas this upcoming fall-winter season, bundle up and LAYER and face the elements in style.
