I can’t believe spring is less than two weeks away – woohoo! As such, I’ve started to think about those essential transitional pieces that take us seamlessly from one season to the next. I thought I’d highlight the trench coat which is a worthwhile investment piece, functional, yet oh so fashionable.
Trench coats are stylish but in an effortless sort of way, which is what I aim for even if I do put in a bit of effort to my look. The trench coat can be worn dressed down layered over a striped tee, sweatshirt, denim jacket, or a cashmere turtleneck if it’s still a bit crisp outside. The trench can also be worn with sweats and sneakers for that downtown cool vibe, with a loafer if you’re going for a preppy look, or with an ankle or knee-high boot for a bit of a 70’s vibe. The trench coat can also be worn in the evening over trousers or your LBD – so you see the options are endless!
If I had to choose one color to invest in, it would be the timeless khaki trench.
Nili Lotan makes a fabulous classic double-breasted trench coat – I’m definitely into the relaxed fit. A.P.C. is always a blue-chip go-to for all wardrobe essentials and that includes their classic cotton gabardine trench coat – talk about Parisian cool!
Though not your typical trench coat, this oversized iteration by Isabel Marant Etoile is super chic.

You can always count on Saint Laurent and Prada for a fabulous fit. For a unique twist on the classic trench, I love this bold to dye for luxe cashmere option by Gabriela Hearst.
