One of the more requested fashion asks I’ve been receiving lately over DM is for beach cover-up suggestions. Cover-ups can run the gamut from casual to dressy depending on the occasion ie, a casual day at the beach, poolside lunch/bbq, apres beach party, or vacation. Regardless of where you’re headed, I got you “covered” (pun intended) with my summer cover-up guide.
Crochet All Day:
Did I just say I got you covered? Well on the one hand, yes, but you know how it goes with crochet…I see you peek a boo…
I am currently coveting this yellow (one of my favorite colors for summer) hand-crochet cotton mini dress adorned with intricate flowers. It doesn’t get sunnier than this Miguelina cover-up! This dress also comes in a skirt style for those who might be interested.
Another timeless crochet cover-up is this cream cotton maxi dress by Anna Kosturova. This dress comes partially lined which also works well for dinner and/or dinner parties. You also have the option to remove the lining and wear it with a one or two-piece swimsuit (bikini brief and bikini top ) poolside. Dare to bare if you will.
Dressier Than Your Average Cover-Up
With events, celebrations, and summer get-togethers on the horizon, I thought I’d add some dressier cover-ups to the mix.
I’m a real sucker for kimono-style cover-ups. Lolita Jaca has been, and continues to be my go-to brand for this sorta thing. They come one size fits all in silk and cotton and are super flattering. They also can work well at night with a kitten heel or a flat if you are on the taller side.
Oséree also makes a glamorous kimono/wrap style version in a sand metallic knit with golden pipe trim.
When it comes to Columbian designer Johanna Ortiz, there is never a shortage of elegant and feminine dress/cover-up options. Her prints are tropical and cheerful and I always look forward to checking out her collections season after season. For an elevated “beach look”, I adore this jersey maxi skirt and bra set. You can always pair it with a white button-down shirt and tie at the bottom for a bit more coverage or even wear it to your next dinner rendezvous.
A Bit More On The Casual Side
If casual is your vibe, then look no further than Mara Hoffman, the queen of cool, effortless, and classic.
This white cotton/linen wide leg jumpsuit with adjustable spaghetti straps is so easy/breezy and who doesn’t love a pocket moment?
I’m also a fan of Hoffman’s black hemp maxi slip dress. As a reference, I usually wear a size 2 but this ran a bit big so I took the size 0. This is another easy beach-to-dinner look, perhaps paired with a denim jacket for the evening.
Another casual yet stylish cover-up option is the pareo. This season Agua by Agua Bendito’s blue floral print pareo with a waist tie and Pucci’s yellow and aqua printed pareo are at the top of my list.
Hope one of these cover-ups takes you great places, even if that means your own backyard!
