Dear August,
I’m thrilled you’re here! I plan to take advantage of every single sunny day with you (and cloudy ones too). There’s something so hopeful about the beginning of a new month. It’s also a reminder to do all the summery things on my bucket list (see here) and to also sit back, relax and chill.
PS. If you tick something off my bucket list, please tag me @fortuneinspired and @thefold_magazine. We’d love to repost all the summer lovin’ fun!
Last month, I finally tried padel, and just a week ago, I took my first tennis lesson of the summer. While I enjoyed padel, I’m going to stick with tennis for the moment.
I wore this green Lululemon racerback tank during my padel lesson and it’s officially my new favorite athletic tank. Generally, I find the racerback style to be quite flattering. I plan to wear this cropped top to pilates, morning beach walks, you name it! I paired it with my Splits59 high-waisted white tennis skort – a sporty classic. For tennis, I wore this darling white dress with a black-white-stripe detail by Court & Course. I’m entertaining shortening the dress just a smidge, but for my taller friends, it hits at the perfect length.
Over the years, I’ve had the great privilege to speak on behalf of organizations I am a board member or co-chair of. However, during one such speaking engagement, I completely froze mid-speech and developed a fear of public speaking. I decided to take matters (read: PTSD) into my own hands and have been working with @allegramamiyelifecoaching, a public speaking and life coach, to overcome this fear. Excitedly, I’m hosting an exciting shopping event later this month for a special brand partner (more details coming soon) and have been asked to introduce the designer who will be in attendance!
Among the August activities I’m looking forward to is a wellness day with the Joyful Approach which include a ‘how-to’ on journaling and vision boarding plus a sound bath and guided meditation experience. I also booked a cooking class with Holy Kale which I’m psyched about!
On my nightstand are two books I hope to dive into – The Letter Carrier by Francesca Gannone and Sisters of Fortune by Esther Chehebar.
Recent home finds include these glass tumblers by Sophie Lou Jacobsen. They’re dainty, delicate and look so pretty on our dining room/breakfast table.
A new recipe I made that received the family stamp of approval is Ina Garten’s panko crusted salmon.
On to fashion! I recently purchased these featherweight soft, high rise jeans by Rag & Bone. Fortunately (yes, pun intended), I was inspired by my daughter Sonia. I plan to wear them with sneakers as soon as they’re hemmed.
I also found this adorable red bikini set by Eres on my recent vacation. I love an underwire bra for added support and Eres has been my go-to brand for classic and well-made swimwear for years.
While I’m still very much in summer mode, my fashion sensibilities are talking about fall, so I’m sharing some statement pieces on my wish list.
These Valentino suede burgundy heels with an ankle strap are beyond chic. I plan to wear them with denim, and all dressed up with a great midi, or a mini evening dress.
I’m swooning over this black Erdem mini velvet clutch (it can fit an iPhone!) with a gold toned flower bud handle. I’m seriously obsessed! It’s also available in burgundy and saffron.
I’m a huge fan of the London-based brand Alessandra Rich. Her ladylike dresses are a favorite of mine and this season her brown/white polka dot silk midi dress is at the top of my list – a fabulous option for the holidays and formal lunches.
This Jonathan Simkhai black crepe blazer has my undivided attention. The cinched waist and square neckline are the perfect combo for a killer dinner-and-drinks top.
This slender leopard belt by Anderson is an easy way to incorporate this season’s animal print trend into your wardrobe. It can elevate a simple outfit to cool fashion girl vibes.
The embellished cardigan is one of those investment wardrobe pieces that you never knew you needed and one that you’ll be so thankful you did. This Etro blue and silk/cashmere cardigan with an embellished neckline will add charm and character to any outfit.
Leather bombers and shearling jackets are everywhere for the upcoming season. Here are my favorite styles and silhouettes:
Chloe cropped shearling-trimmed leather jacket
Nili Lotan black leather jacket
The Row brown leather jacket
Tod’s suede brown bomber jacket
Loewe black leather biker-style jacket
I’m a sucker for sweater vests, and I’m coveting this brown wool blend style by James Perse. Typically, I wear mine over a white or denim button-down, fitted turtleneck, or white tee. Solo looks cute too. The options are endless!
Brown is the new black this season, (well last season too), and I’m all for a rich chocolate cashmere sweater. Here is a lust-have crewneck style by Khaite and a must have boyfriend style option by Reformation.
I was gifted this The Row 90’s suede tote bag for a recent birthday, and it has become my evening go-to. I love the brown suede and the size is perfect – it fits all my essentials like my phone, lipgloss, hand sanitizer and… a pocket sized salt shaker (don’t ask). I also recently saw it in a beautiful burgundy leather.
Wishing everyone a wonderful rest of summer and see you in September!
