 39 LESSONS I’VE LEARNED FROM PARENTING

Praise carefully and selectively

I gain nothing from yelling

Sometimes yelling is unavoidable!

A punishment should fit the crime

Sense of humor is key

Apparently I am NOT cool

Who said happy hour is from 5-6?

It’s ok to say, “I made a mistake”

Life is not perfect

And this too shall pass…

Kids will eat when they’re hungry

Sometimes when a child (OR ME) is acting out, all we need is a hug

Children are the greatest negotiators

According to my children, I don’t dress my age

Amidst chaos, I dream of far off exotic places

The children’s dictionary must have a different definition of NO

Everyday should be Mother’s Day

Looking through the lens of my children’s eyes is refreshing

Consistency is key

Teach by example

My mother’s words, “Wait till you have kids,” has come full circle

Kids leftovers from any meal is awesome

Time outs for parents is necessary-I highly recommend it

Kids will never admit when they’re tired

Kids want one more snack exactly at bed time

We feel our children’s pain more than they do

Always listen to your instincts. They’re usually correct

I will never have the “right” snacks

Our kids are the best investment we can make

It is not what you do for your children but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will make them successful human beings

I have and always will love shopping for school supplies with my kids

When all else fails, there is CANDY

Validate Validate Validate!

Though not easy, relinquishing control allows for our children’s growth as well as our own

BREATHE

We can only do our best
