A friend of mine recently recommended a book on the best seller list titled, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. How did she know I was a closet case organizing fanatic? I immediately purchased a copy and began reading it over the weekend.
Although only mid way through the book, the Japanese author, Marie Kondo, has me thinking about her revolutionary Konmari Method.
So far, I have come away with the following tips which can be helpful in attaining a certain calm and order. Who couldn’t use a l’il of that!?!
1. If an item doesn’t spark joy, then it’s time to toss.
2. Effective tidying involves first discarding and later storing. I must admit, I stopped reading this book midway to begin my purging process. Probably a better idea to finish the book first, but I couldn’t resist.
3. One should organize by category not by room. For example, when decluttering books, do so in every room in the house before moving on to the next category.
I usually don’t enjoy enjoy self help books, though I have a shit load lying around my house. This one though drew me in without too much analysis.
