I’m screwed.
On my way to Europe last week, I began reading “How To Be Parisian Wherever You Are”, written by three female icons from the music, film and fashion world. One of their aphorisms is that we should “find” our signature perfume before we turn thirty and wear it for the next thirty years. This makes me nine years too late!
I have always had a love/hate relationship with perfume. I love and appreciate certain scents on others but I haven’t discovered a light, fresh scent that I can call my own, thus my hate relationship.
With all this in mind, I decided to make it my mission to discover my personal scent.
As fate would have it, my husband and I were at dinner one evening in Florence, when a beautiful scent wafted by. I looked up and at a nearby table, was a lady presenting different perfumes to her clients. I needed to know what this perfume was. It just so happened they were from the house of Ferragamo presenting their new scents for 2015 to Saks 5th Avenue buyers. Sensing my enthusiasm, the lady generously gave me a sample of “Emozione” which will be launched in January.
As yet another sign, last month British Vogue did an article about fragrance houses like Guerlain and Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie that customize scents but they are a bloody fortune. Perhaps I will look for my signature scent from perfumers like Diptyque, Chanel or Le Labo that have experts in boutiques who can create a signature scent combining existing fragrances.
Until then, I am relying on my own pheromones. Parisians beware.

I was in your shoes until I was introduced to Kai. Sold in Barney’s, affordable and I get complements on it wherever I go. Try it out.
