The Jewish New Year is just two weeks away. This month, I devoted my list to all of the things I “love” about this special and meaningful holiday
On the Jewish New Year, who doesn’t love…
- Eating tongue or the head of a fish.
- An expanded waistline after 4 consecutive holiday meals.
- Setting a beautiful table.
- Uninterrupted family time, a great opportunity to regress.
- Getting creative with fall recipes.
- Unplugging for two whole days.
- The opportunity to atone for sins and boy do I have a list!
- An excuse to shop for new clothing.
- An excuse to eat sweets.
- Sending and receiving New Years greetings from and to both old and new friends.
- Having not 1, but 2 chances a year to screw up on New Year’s resolutions.
- A sober New Year’s day.
- No homework days.
- Reflecting on our behavior over the past year. Nothing like owning it – for better or worse.
- The obvious conversation starters which begin a month before the holidays: Where will you be spending the holidays? Who is preparing the meals? Which synagogue do you pray at?
- When our parents and in-laws actually negotiate over who is having their children for which meal? Have we ever felt so wanted?
- A time to feel gratitude.
- That the evening festivities are a BREEZE compared to Passover.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy sweet New Year!
